In Gemert, a remarkable building project called the 'Pontenage' has come to life. This residential-care complex was constructed for Stichting ORO and boasts 24 studios, 6 flats, and 3 communal living rooms, providing accommodation for 30 people.

What sets this project apart is its pioneering use of Cross Laminated Timber (CLT) elements for the entire support structure, including walls and floors. CLT, a sustainable and innovative building material, is composed of cross-laminated wooden slats, forming a sturdy wooden construction that adds to the uniqueness of this development.

The primary obstacle faced in this project involved managing the transmission of sound in a wooden building, specifically addressing the issue of sound flanking. Compared to conventional construction materials like concrete or steel, timber structures have a higher tendency to transmit sound due to their lighter weight. Thus, the key objective was to reduce sound transmission between the CLT walls and floors, while also ensuring secure anchoring between the walls and floors. To overcome this challenge, a creative and novel acoustic solution was indispensable.

Delta-L, our local partner, provided the solution to this challenge by utilizing the Straviwood WallBreak-P system, which consists of natural rubber pads designed to decouple the walls from the floors, effectively reducing sound transmission. Additionally, they employed the Straviwood WallBracket to anchor the walls securely to the floor, ensuring acoustic isolation for this anchoring. Lastly, the CLT walls were externally interconnected using the Straviwood ModuLink, which efficiently transferred the specified forces while limiting transmission.

These integrated solutions led to the successful completion of the project, with excellent control over sound transmission and a comfortable living environment for the residents of the residential care complex.
