Originally constructed around 1897, the Radetzky Barracks stood prominently along the Danube River in the heart of Budapest. Over the course of more than a century, the building changed ownership and function numerous times, yet underwent no significant renovations.
In 2020, a major transformation began. While preserving the historic façades under monument protection, the structure was revitalized into a modern mixed-use complex to be able to serve as both a hotel and an office building, blending historical character with contemporary functionality.
Situated directly above high-end hotel suites, the rooftop machinery room required a carefully engineered acoustic solution to prevent noise and vibrations from disturbing guests. In close coordination with the acoustic consultant, two different floating floor systems were carefully selected and installed - each tailored to the specific requirements of the respective areas within the room.
The machinery room was divided into two sections at different levels. In the smaller area, positioned at the lower elevation and containing only minor equipment such as collectors, Stravifloor Mat-W25x, a roll-out floating floor system, was installed. This solution met the less stringent isolation requirements while offering a quick and efficient installation.
The larger, upper-level section housed heavier mechanical equipment including heat pumps and heat exchangers. For this more demanding zone, Stravifloor Channel, a discrete floating floor system with high-resilience bearings, was implemented. This system ensured optimal reduction of structure-borne noise and vibration, making it ideally suited for areas with significant mechanical loads.
When mechanical rooms are located directly above sensitive spaces like hotel suites, high-performance acoustic isolation becomes essential - not just for regulatory compliance, but to ensure guest comfort and preserve the luxury experience.
