Always wanted to work out in a monumental building in Amsterdam? This is possible at SportCity Cornelis Schuyt, a beautifully restored historic building, converted into a modern gym.
Together with our local partner Delta-L, we were involved in the acoustic improvement of SportCity. After a thorough study, it was decided to install a special sound-insulating Stravigym floating floor on each floor of the club to prevent noise pollution as much as possible.
The main concern is the noise from falling weights on the floor and in some of the fitness equipment itself, which can reverberate considerably in the building and at the neighbors' homes. These low frequency impact sounds can be perceived as disturbing if not properly addressed. In order to determine exactly which noise levels are generated in this building and therefore which sound insulation is required, we built a test set-up of the floor in advance and sound measurements were carried out by Cauberg-Huygen. These measurements showed that the Stravigym XP system which was installed meets the set requirements. The subsequent control measurements also demonstrate this.
We wanted to achieve an acoustic result that was five decibels lower than stipulated in the Activities Decree (Activiteitenbesluit). I'm happy to say that we succeeded. Thanks to the dismountable Stravigym XP floating floor system, we achieved what we set out to do. Good for our gym members, good for SportCity, and last but not least, good for the neighbors.
