Film Forum is a nonprofit movie theater in Lower Manhattan, New York City. It is the only autonomous nonprofit cinema in New York City, and one of the few in the United States.
With the addition of a fourth theater to the existing venue, quality sound isolation became even more important. The former loading bay of the building was converted into a 109-seat theater and a mechanical equipment room adjacent to the theater. The $6 Mio. renovation project also included updated HVAC system and refurbished interior finishes for the venue.
With Stravifloor Jackup boxes, CDM Stravitec provided a vibration isolation design that helped the client maximize the acoustic performance in the venue, while reducing costs from the original design. Stravifloor Jackup was designed to a resonant frequency of 4.5 Hz for the 4” concrete slab, with an air gap of 1” to the subfloor. CDM Stravitec assisted the design team and contractor throughout all phases, from pre-construction to shop drawings and site installation.
