The historic Central Hotel on Exchequer Street in Dublin is undergoing an extensive refurbishment to become Ireland's first Hoxton Hotel. This ambitious redevelopment will feature 129 redesigned rooms, an expanded bar, and new restaurant spaces, blending Dublin’s unique charm with the Hoxton’s renowned style, as seen in cities like London, Paris, Amsterdam, and Chicago.
CDM Stravitec was commissioned by the design team, on the recommendation of Amplitude Acoustics Ltd, to design, supply, and install a high-performance bespoke floating floor system on the first-floor level. The primary aim of this system is to prevent noise contamination from the existing Yamamori Restaurant and Nightclub located below, ensuring a quiet environment for the new bedrooms above.
Our in-house engineering team met the challenge of designing a solution that satisfied the structural and acoustical requirements while respecting the integrity of this protected building. Working in collaboration with Duggan Brothers Ltd, we installed Stravibase Fix isolation systems with structural steelwork fixed to the existing walls, a space-saving joist system, and three layers of cement particle board with an intermediate 5 mm damping layer.
Above the bedrooms, approximately 4,000 sqm of Stravifloor Mat-W8x resilient mat was installed beneath a plywood layer, topped with carpet to create a premium finish. This integrated solution ensures effective noise mitigation while maintaining the structural and aesthetic integrity of the building.
We are proud to contribute to this transformative project, bringing innovative acoustic solutions to one of Dublin’s iconic landmarks.
