Digital and Sustainable Innovations for Economic Growth
On October 24, seventh Voka Sustainable Entrepreneurship Day showcased the intersection of digital innovation and sustainability, spotlighting their potential to drive environmentally responsible economic growth. Hosted by Voka, the Flemish network for businesses, the event united thought leaders, industry experts, and companies committed to harnessing technology to address pressing challenges such as climate change, resource scarcity, and the demands of digitalization. Through dynamic breakout sessions and keynote discussions, participants explored how sustainable innovations can reinforce digital infrastructure, enabling a more resilient, responsible economy.
Among the leaders sharing insights was Guillaume Carels, Group Operations Director, who contributed a session on building a sustainable value chain in the construction sector, emphasizing the company’s commitment to reducing environmental impact across the value chain.
Some Pillars for Sustainable Innovation at CDM Stravitec:
Research & Development
With around 80 engineers on our staff, we focus on developing solutions that meet client needs with the least environmental impact. By prioritizing efficiency in noise and vibration reduction and not being material-dependent, we follow the principle that "the fewer contact points, the better". This approach minimizes resource use while maintaining high-quality and effective solutions.
Eco-design and Sustainable Product Development
Our team is placing a growing emphasis on eco-design and sustainable product development, guided by the Lifecycle Design Strategy (LiDS) principles. We focus on impactful, small adjustments, such as eliminating glue and other consumables to enable easy disassembly and minimize environmental impact during use. Additionally, we prioritize material reduction and optimize products for end-of-life recyclability, ensuring sustainability at every stage of the product lifecycle.
Commitment to VCDO and SDGs
Actively engaged in Belgium’s VCDO (the local equivalent of the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals), CDM Stravitec has demonstrated its dedication by winning VCDO recognition in 2022 and 2023 and has embarked on its third year of participation. The company’s overarching goal is to attain “SDG Pioneer” status by 2025, signalling its alignment with the United Nations’ global sustainability benchmarks.
