Celebrating 5 Years of Stravimech

As we mark the 5th anniversary of Stravimech, our range of solutions for the isolation and elastic fixation of building services and mechanical equipment, we take a moment to reflect on the evolution of the brand, the expertise behind it, and its growing importance in modern buildings.

Officially introduced five years ago as part of CDM Stravitec’s rebranding journey, Stravimech was created to give our machine isolation solutions a clearer identity and make it easier for customers to find the right solution for each application. However, while the brand itself is five years old, the knowledge behind it is built on decades of experience in vibration isolation, structure-borne noise control, and real-world building challenges.

Today, mechanical equipment plays an increasingly important role in buildings. From HVAC systems and heat pumps to generators, industrial equipment and elevators, these machines can generate vibrations that travel through the building structure, affecting occupants, neighbouring spaces and overall comfort.

Stravimech solutions are designed to address these challenges by decoupling equipment from its supporting structure. The range includes different types of mounts, solutions for applications involving significant uplift forces, and dedicated systems for isolating elevator guide rails from the shaft structure.

To explore the story behind the brand, we sat down with Justin Miroir, Global Segment Manager Acoustical Hangers & Mounts, as part of our CDM Stravitec | Speaking With... podcast series.

In this conversation, Justin Miroir shares his experience in vibration isolation, how customer expectations and building requirements have evolved, what makes Stravimech solutions different, and what he hopes we will be celebrating when the brand reaches its 10th anniversary.

Quick Fire with Justin Miroir

Most underrated vibration source in a building?
Trams. The discomfort is not caused by the tram itself passing nearby, but by the vibrations it generates and transmits into the building.

One product from the Stravimech range you couldn’t live without?
Our new Stravimech Bearing-S range. It is smart, easy to use, and offers strong performance.

A project type you always enjoy working on?
Projects where I learn something new. The pleasure often comes afterwards, when you look back and realise what the project taught you.

What’s always on your desk?
Samples and solutions from the two brands I’m responsible for. Maybe too many, to be honest.

Book, podcast or Netflix?
Definitely podcasts at the moment, although I enjoy all three.

Three words your colleagues would use to describe you?
Fun, curious and trustworthy.

  • Before we talk about Stravimech, can you tell us a bit about your role at CDM Stravitec?

My name is Justin Miroir. I spent my first four years at CDM Stravitec as a Project Engineer before becoming Global Segment Manager for our Stravilink and Stravimech brands.

Stravilink focuses on wall and ceiling isolation, while Stravimech is dedicated to machine isolation. My role is to make sure we offer a range of solutions that responds to real market needs, delivers strong performance, and remains cost-effective.

To do that, I need to listen closely to the market, understand the challenges our clients face, and help translate those needs into practical solutions. I’m also responsible for how we communicate these solutions to the market.

  • How did you first become involved with vibration isolation and building services applications?

My first experience came through my work as a Project Engineer. That role exposed me to many different types of projects and helped me understand the physics behind the solutions we offer.

I worked on the isolation of several types of equipment, including heat pumps, HVAC units and elevators, which gave me a very practical understanding of vibration isolation in real building applications.

  • Five years ago, CDM Stravitec introduced the Stravimech brand. Why was it important to create a dedicated identity for these solutions?

I joined the company around that transition period, and I remember that, if you were not already familiar with CDM Stravitec, it could be difficult to navigate through all the different solutions.

We had multiple applications and different types of products, each with its own requirements. From an external perspective, it was not always immediately clear which solution matched which need.

Creating dedicated brand identities helped make our offering easier to understand and gave Stravimech a clearer place in the market.

  • For someone unfamiliar with Stravimech, how would you explain in simple terms what the brand represents?

Stravimech represents our range of solutions for isolating building services and mechanical equipment.

In simple terms, the goal is to decouple a machine from its supporting structure so that the vibrations it generates are not transmitted into the building.

The range includes different types of mounts, solutions designed for applications with significant uplift forces, and dedicated systems for isolating elevator guide rails from the shaft structure.

  • Although the brand is only five years old, the expertise behind it is much older. How would you describe that heritage?

That heritage started long before I joined the company. I’m surrounded by colleagues with a great deal of experience, some of whom have been here for more than 20 years.

They learned from people who came before them, and that knowledge has been passed on over time. It is one of the reasons CDM Stravitec is truly specialised in this niche field.

  • Why are vibration and structure-borne noise from mechanical equipment becoming increasingly important considerations in modern buildings?

Mechanical equipment plays an increasingly important role in modern buildings. We see it everywhere, from HVAC systems to heat pumps, which are becoming more common for both ecological and economic reasons.

However, these machines can also generate vibrations and noise that affect occupants, neighbours and the overall comfort of a building. If this is not properly addressed, it can lead to complaints and, in some cases, non-compliance with local noise regulations.

  • When people think about vibration isolation, they often think only about large HVAC equipment. What other applications does Stravimech support?

In principle, Stravimech can support any type of equipment that generates vibrations.

HVAC units and heat pumps are common examples, but we have also worked on generators, industrial equipment, elevators and many other applications. Stravimech is definitely not limited to HVAC.

  • What makes Stravimech solutions different from simply placing equipment on generic rubber pads?

Generic rubber pads can be suitable in some situations, but the right solution depends on several factors: the load, the excitation frequency, the required level of performance, and the way the equipment needs to be installed.

For example, does the machine need to be mechanically fixed? Are there uplift or lateral forces to consider? Are there mounting restrictions on site?

Stravimech solutions are designed to take these requirements into account and provide a solution that is better suited to the application.

  • What do you think has been the biggest change in the market since Stravimech was launched?

Cities are becoming denser, building designs are becoming more demanding, and regulations in several countries are evolving. All of this makes vibration and noise control more relevant than ever.

I would say the biggest change is that these topics are no longer seen as secondary details. They are increasingly part of the core performance expectations for modern buildings.

  • Is there a project that taught you an important lesson, either professionally or personally?

I have worked on many different projects in many different countries, and one important lesson is that similar applications do not always require the same solution.

The technical context, local expectations, building constraints and market habits can all influence what we need to propose.

For me, the key is to stay curious, keep an open mind, and really understand the needs of each market before proposing a solution.

  • When we’re celebrating the 10-year anniversary of Stravimech, what would you like us to be talking about?

In five years, I would like us to be talking about how much further the brand has developed.

There are still new solutions we can create, new applications we can address, and new markets where we can bring our expertise.

As Global Segment Manager for Stravimech, I would be very happy to look back at the progress made and see that even more clients trust us and want to work with us.

Good vibration control is often invisible when it works, but essential to creating comfortable, high-performing spaces.
