70 Years Tells A Story
Entity view (Content)
Since our humble beginnings in 1951, we've been dedicated to making a difference in the lives of our customers by engineering the best possible noise and vibration isolation solutions. Our business is the result of visionary leadership, along with generations of employees focused on helping customers design quieter buildings and railroad infrastructure, improving the quality of life of thousands of people worldwide.
The belief that building construction should go hand in hand with attention to proper sound insulation is the principle on which CDM Stravitec was built, and has been the driving force behind the decisions the company has made over the past 70 years. This rich heritage defines who we are and what we do today – making your world a quieter place.
CDM Stravitec's history is more than the buildings we've helped construct and the clients we've served. Much of our history is in the details. See how CDM Stravitec started, how we grew and how our leadership has changed the soundproofing industry.
The Pioneer Years
Our history begins in 1951, with the foundation of Pronouvo. Back then, we mainly manufactured cork plastics for the gasket and noise and vibration isolation market.
In the mid-1980s, the name ‘CDM’, which stands for Composite Damping Materials, was born. At the time, the production of engineered composite materials became our core business. CDM became known for its technical expertise, innovative solutions and independence in terms of materials used, which allowed us to respond to a wide variety of noise and vibration control problems.
1st Base Isolation Project
In 1964, CDM Stravitec was involved in the first building base isolation project in the world: ‘deSingel’, Flanders' international arts centre.
Due to its proximity to the busy Antwerp/Ghent railway line and ring road, deSingel arts centre with is various stages, concert halls and exhibition spaces, needed to be acoustically decoupled from each other and shielded from structure-borne noise and vibration generated by passing trains and road traffic. 10Hz pre-compressed PD plastic cork/lead composite bearings with a capacity of 4MPa were installed to provide the required level of isolation.
Changing Tracks
Until 2014, CDM Stravitec was also active in the railroad industry. Our technical solutions brought more elasticity to the railroad structure and this at three different levels in the track: the rails, the sleepers and the ballast.
Throughout Europe, CDM Stravitec elastic elements were added to public transport systems to smooth and improve the interaction between rail components, thereby improving track quality. E.g. ADIF Spain, Lisbon Metro, RATP in Paris, Madrid Metro, TMB Barcelona.
Our Commitment to Excellence
CDM Stravitec operates an ISO 9001:2015 approved quality assurance system since the year 2000. Technical support, quality control, and R&D are primary commitments for us.
An international and highly qualified team of engineers, continuous investment in acoustic and mechanical properties testing, collaboration with leading international universities and testing institutes enable us to develop the right solution, predict its performance, and provide detailed drawings and installation plans for each project.
Your Partner in Silence
How well our solutions perform largely depends on the quality and care taken during installation. By overseeing installation and addressing any issues that may occur, we can provide the necessary warranties, giving you complete peace of mind.
Our hands-on approach and dedication to a job well done are just two of the reasons why professionals, from architects to structural engineers, acousticians, contractors and construction promoters, choose us to work together.
